On October 19 The Louvre in Paris, France was robbed. The museum was accessed through an upstairs window using an electrical lift.  It took the thieves less than 8 minutes to cut through the window and steal all of the jewels. The robbery occurred in broad daylight with the thieves escaping by scooter.

The thieves stole 8 pieces of Napoleonic crowned jewels, priced around 102 million dollars. Though they dropped two of the crowns on the same day and the jewels were recovered by the museum. The cops reported that the crime was committed by locals and did not have an affiliation with organized crime. The case became viral on Tik Tok for the rarity and scale of the crime, and because of the mysterious “French detective” who was thought to be leading the case. Many videos featured a photo of the man outside of the Louvre wearing a vintage suit and hat, causing people to compare him to an old time Hollywood movie star. Though it turned out that he was a fifteen year old teenage bystander whom people had mistaken for the detective of the case.

3 people were convicted for the crime and later released, though there are 2 people currently being charged and in the process of being prosecuted. French citizens have called this crime a slight on their culture and are deeply offended. The Louvre has not been robbed since 1998 when the painting Le chemin de Sevres was stolen. Le chemin de Sevres was never recovered and the theft was not even discovered for over an hour after the painting was cut from its frame.
