Hello seniors!! The end of the school year is approaching us! Most of us will be heading to college to go onto the next chapter of our lives. With that being said many of us will be moving out, as well, to live on campus in a dorm. It can be stressful figuring out what is most essential to have in your dorm, so I’ll do that for you!
Here is a list of the top ten most needed items for your dorm!
1. Mattress Topper– the mattress you are provided from the college will not be comfy, so buying a mattress topper for your bed is a must have so you can have a comfy bed to feel at home in your new space.
2.Power strips and extension cords– these are needed because in your dorm there will be limited outlets, and you are definitely going to need lots of different things plugged in. Your lamp, iphone charger, laptop charger, mini fridge, microwave, and for girls straighteners and curling irons, these are all items that are going to require you to plug them in! Having power strips for multiple outlets is a must have in your new space!
3. Plastic drawers– These are essential for your dorm to ensure you have plenty of space and storage for all your clothes and items you plan on bringing with you. Dorms typically don’t have an insane amount of space so these drawers you can put under your bed and different furniture for more storage.
4. Cleaning supplies– Cleaning supplies like a vacuum, dusters, paper towels and depending if you have an in room bathroom, bathroom supplies are essential. Buying these ahead of time will ensure you and your roommate keep your new space clean and tidy!
5. Shower caddy– Having all of your products and daily necessities all in one container will be most beneficial. If your dorm has communal bathrooms you’ll want a handy shower caddy to carry all your products in one. With the shower caddy you’ll probably also want shower shoes like flip flops or slides to keep on while you shower. This is to prevent you from not getting sick and preventing bacteria exchange!
6. Laundry Hamper– Convenient to carry your laundry down to the washers and dryers all at once, so you won’t have to take multiple trips. Having all your clothes in one load can help you keep better track of all your clothes while being washed.
7. Fan– Most dorms have AC but if you are someone who prefers it even cooler this would be great to have in your dorm. Such a small space can get hot easily, the fan would be essential for keeping your space cool.
8. Command Hooks/Strips- You are not able to put holes in the wall to hang pictures, command hooks and strips allow you to hang things on the walls to make your room feel more at home and more comfortable!
9. Air purifier- An air purifier helps remove dust, allergens, and germs from your dorm room. This can improve your overall health, better air quality, support sleep and focus. In a small shared space, it also helps eliminate odors from food, laundry keeping the air fresh!
10. Mini fridge– Having this in your dorm allows you to have snacks and food that you are used to eating at home. There are lots of food options on campus but getting to have your own snacks, you get to pick, is essential. It also allows you to have items of food that are cold and need refrigerated!
