The Lake Volleyball team has recently proved their dominance on the court as their record has drastically improved since last season. Does this new season’s success have anything to do with new coaching staff?
The Lady Streaks are holding their own on the court this season with a 9-8 record and intend to improve that record over the next few games against Federal League rivals, Perry and Glenoak. Senior Amanda Brady, who thrives in her setting position, stated that she was very happy with the team’s expectations which have skyrocketed compared to previous seasons. When talking to Brady, she was asked to give insight about the new coaching staff and if she believes that they have any contribution to the team’s new coming success.
“We definitely have improved. I think our coaching staff last year troubled us because they would yell at us for making mistakes as compared to the new coaching staff who encourages us and gives us constructive criticism,” stated Brady.
Brady has made it clear their expectations during the off season were pretty low based off last year’s season but once they started getting comfortable on the court they have tremendously improved along with increasing their expectations.
The record of last season was an underwhelming 4-18, as they also didn’t win a single Federal League game. However they have bounced back with multiple Federal League wins, taking down Green, Hoover, Perry, and McKinley.
The varsity volleyball coach, Caleb Francis, who recently joined the Lake Volleyball program, coming from Cuyahoga Falls and continues coaching at AVC Academy Cleveland is excited to bring a new culture and coaching style to the team.
Coach Caleb shared his thoughts, “I didn’t know what to expect coming into the season, but I was ready to coach the girls on and off the court with encouragement and help them get out of a bad mindset.”
Coach Caleb contributes many successful attributes alongside his hardworking team to get the most out of the players and this ongoing season.
The Lake Volleyball team has had not only an athletic shift, but a cultural shift. The shift of attitudes, perseverance, and mindsets have all helped shape a new way for the volleyball program.
