The Blue Streaks Baseball Team is coached by Coach Anderson and Coach Buckerfield (Buck). They are two well astounded coaches, as well as amazing teachers. Their leadership in the classroom plays into their coaching skills very well. The Blue Streaks had a strong season last year, but fell short at the end of the road. This year they look forward to changing the narrative and making a splash in the Federal League.
“Last year we had some studs like Caleb Collins and Leo Smerglia, but it was a very underachieving year and hopefully this year we turn the tables around.” Buck states when asked about how last year was.
The Blue Streaks look to change the tide this season and roll into the playoffs with a better winning mentality. The 2024 seniors are an exciting group of players.
One person in particular is Jeriah Davis. His pitching contributions towards the team this season will make or break the season.
“I feel like we have a great team this season and the players are a lot closer than teams I’ve been on in the past. This past offseason I strictly focused on upping my pitching game and perfecting it.”
Davis is the lead pitcher and one of the senior captains. He’s a crucial player for the Blue Streaks this season and keeping him healthy will be one of many steps towards a Federal League title.
The Blue Streaks will be faced with many challenges this year, but overcoming them will be the key part this season.
“This season is a lot different from previous years because we got a new coach, Lou Kolasky. His biggest focus towards the teammates and players is nutrition and health. Staying healthy in baseball is the biggest factor and could determine if you win or lose a game. The back half of the season is where we start to see players become exhausted, but with coach Kolasky I believe we will have different results.” stated Coach Buck
Health is a main focus among all players and coaches in all sports, but with baseball a pitcher must be able to pitch several games in a week with little rest. Staying healthy will be the key factor if the Blue Streaks make a deep playoff run.
“I believe staying healthy is the most vital part of my game because it keeps me in the game. My contribution to the team is significant and as much as I can be on the field is important. Heading into senior season I received a much bigger role, so heading into the season I focused on training harder and fitness.” Reflected by leading senior AJ Bosz.
Bosz believes this baseball team is the closest team he’s been a part of. Bosz is one of the leading pitches for Lake and is eager to take on the more challenging and sufficient role on the team. The amount of work that he put into the season will be reflected by his play.
“My goal is to help lead the boys to their first district title in over 20 years. I love coaching baseball and have for awhile now, but this team is special. The amount of talent that’s provided this year is definitely noticeable. If we fix the small errors and perfect are game, then a district title is in sight. Their goal is to make a splash within the league because it’s so open. It’s anybody’s title. We just have to stay healthy and consistent.”
Coach Buckerfield has been faced with many obstacles, but this year it’s looking like he’s going to avoid them all. The grit and hard word the coaching staff has put into the team looks like it might just pay off.
