The Lady Blue Streaks are surging above the competition in the 2023-2024 season so far. They currently stand at 15-2, with one of their only losses to Jackson in a heartbreaking 7 point defeat and a one point difference against Wadsworth. The ladies are ranked 6th in the state for girl’s basketball and look forward to keeping the streak going. Last year, they finished 15-8, but with the help of seniors this season they look forward to surpassing that record. They protected their home court in three suppressing performances against 3 stellar teams(Tallmadge, Green, Hoover). A main thing to takeaway from the ladies is that they don’t have many substitutes, so they are battling each game as a family together.
Emma Anderson is a focal point of the Lady Streaks. “Whenever someone is hot we feed them the ball as much as possible, and chemistry this year is clicking more than ever between us girls,” Anderson responded when asked How the team is performing at an elite level.
Anderson’s concise play and decision making has made her team and her part of the top basketball teams in Ohio. The Lady Streaks have made this incredible run without many subs as well. Paige Marshall was questioned on how they mentally prepare for each game.
“Are practices designed to endurance us for the games very well. Whenever I feel tired in a game I think about what sitting the bench can do to our team at the time. I feel obligated to play no matter how tired I am,” (Marshall).
Marshall’s mental toughness is one of the main factors that help the Blue Streaks roll through the federal league with ease. Serenitee Johnson is another important senior role player for the Streaks.
What are some of the main differences between this season and previous ones?
“This season has been so exciting for me and full of great memories, but I can’t wait for the playoffs. This season I feel like we’ve prepared more seriously than previous years. The practices are difficult and consist of mostly endurance and running exercises due to the lack of subs. I feel like if we erase the small errors, then we can make a serious run in the playoffs.” (Serenitee Johnson)
This Girls Varsity Basketball team has surpassed expectations and they will be a must watch team in the future including playoffs. The amount of adversity they battle each week and the chemistry between the girls makes their games a thrilling experience to watch.
