The Lake Blue Streak Boy’s Soccer has faced adversity throughout the entire season. They started the season 0-4 and slowly scraped their way back into playoff seeding over the past month. They finished their regular season on a high note, by beating Walsh Jesuit the 55th ranked team in the nation.
Heading into the game they were doubted by many individuals. Jake Mullen, Senior Captain, said this on behalf of the team heading into the game, “If we played outstanding defense then maybe we could tie, but warming up before the game I felt like Walsh was on a different level then us.” Mullen was optimistic heading into the game and wanted to believe that the Blue Streaks could achieve the unachievable. Mullen felt the season shifted when they beat Green earlier in the season, getting better every week.
“I think if we keep balling out week by week, then we can end up in the district finals, and maybe even further,” stated senior Carson Cummings.
Cummings is feeling very confident in the team’s ability going forward to the playoffs.
This last senior jolted energy into the Blue Streaks for their playoff run. Phoenix Smith had the goal of the year against Walsh Jesuit. He was able to place the ball in the top corner of the goal against the elite defense.
“I don’t even know what to say about the moment. I was flabbergasted, at that point I knew we could leave Walsh with a win.” Smith brought life back into the Blue Streaks for their upcoming playoff run.
They recently beat Ellet 7-0. Their next game is against Stow, they’re on pace to face Hoover in the district finals. This Blue Streak team has battled adversity all year. In the last 10 games they’re 8-1-1. Hopefully this Blue Streaks team can rally together to record a historic run.
