On Sept. 10. 2023, seniors at Lake High School participated in the 3rd annual parking spot painting. In the Lake High School parking lot, seniors used weatherproof paints to create colorful paintings, allowing them to be more involved in the school community. Seniors demonstrate their creativity by painting witty and inspiring images.
Mrs. Munoz is the assistant principal at Lake High School. She aided in the push for more enjoyable, fun-filled days, benefiting seniors along with the rest of the student-faculty.
Munoz touches on the topic with her perspective, “This is our 3rd year painting spots, and I wanted to start another fun tradition for seniors. I wanted to bring peace and happiness to a place that typically, does not have a joyful atmosphere. Last year we had about 75 participants, and this year we are close to 90. All of the parking spots have all been super cool and the seniors each year have not disappointed.” Granting students the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents has allowed seniors to become more involved in the school community.
The supplies students brought consisted of house paint, brushes, brooms, rollers, tape, trash bags, and water. The items that were not accepted involved: oil paints, spray paints, and clear coatings of any kind.
According to Mrs. Munoz, Lake has donated proceeds to the LOC (Love Our Community) in 2021-2022. In past years, Lake donated items such as clothes and toys, but this year, we donated healthcare products to the Lake Care Closet. The Lake Care Closet is a Closet that carries supplies donated by the people of Hartville for the people who need basic necessities.
The student’s creations consist of flowers, puns, cartoons, motivational quotes, and many more colorful works of art. They had creative liberty in the use of their supplies to create masterpieces that are free to view anytime. But beware, for this event can be costly, and most students spend a large sum on supplies. Munoz comments, “There is a lot of pride that goes into them. It takes a lot more paint than one would think.” Seniors such as Grace Peters, Joshua Westfall, Ella Moore, and Evane Mast spent an average of $145 per student on paint and brushes. All in all, seniors have enjoyed this tradition and have named it a highlight of their senior year.
