The Lake Blue Streaks rolled over the federal league in 2022; winning the title for the first time in 24 years. The team continued their streak into the playoffs making it to the semi-final round; with injuries and seniors leaving the community questioning how the Blue Streaks plan to repeat. Senior captains are faced with the burden from the community of how a historic season can even begin to be replicated.
“The personnel is very different on the team, but the coaches and the enthusiasm are still up to pace as last year,” said senior captain Celton Dutton returning safety/kicker.
Losing that class of seniors is a stinger to the Blue Streaks, but that doesn’t stop the hungry underclassmen from getting their chance to shine.
Anthony Miller, another returning senior and captain this year, elaborates on how to prepare for the task, “I quit track to focus on weight lifting and footwork technique to improve my overall performance.” Miller made a huge sacrifice giving up track to focus on football.
“ I watched way more film of myself and was able to focus on the grind and weights more.” Returning senior, quarterback of the defense, Evan Brady felt watching more film has contributed to his overall game as well as helped slow the game down, and understand it more going into his final year.
The Blue Streaks are currently sailing along just fine this year with a record of 4 -1. With them recently steamrolling Louisville 49-0. They look forward to continuing the streak with a win against the Jackson Polar Bears. Winning the Federal League back-to-back years would make a major impact on the community. Losing that class of seniors is a stinger to the Blue Streaks, but that doesn’t stop the current team from getting their chance to shine.
