On Friday, January 27, students and parents alike came together in the Performing Arts Hall to celebrate the talents of performers in this year’s Arts for Hearts program. Directed by NHS members Katie Alcorn, Natalie Holstine, George Pallas, and Nick Schafer, the event was organized to raise money for underprivileged performing arts programs, with all proceeds going to the Save the Music Foundation. Between ticket sales, bake sale profits, and generous donations, the group raised nearly $1000 for the charity.

Acts for the show included spectacular vocal performances by Jordan Horinger, Landry Yoder and Lela Isakov, Kaylee Taylor, Gavin Greathouse, Ella Warth, and Roo Stewart. Instrumental performances stunned the audience as well, with a clarinet quartet involving Kylie Bailey, Abbey Constantine, Anna Grace Willoughby, and Natalie Holstine, and other amazing sets by Delaney Kaylor on flute, Connor Hockenberry playing the piano, Katie Alcorn and her cello, Elden Shrembeck on trombone, and guitarist MJ Dean performing alongside clarinetist Shelby Miller. Rounding off the show to a roaring crowd, the Boomwhacker Society also showed up to deliver a phenomenal rendition of “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars.

Beyond the stage were numerous volunteers, without which the show would not have been possible. Those working the booth brought out the perfect lighting and sound for each act, the stage crew made sure everything ran smoothly, and volunteers selling tickets and baked goods worked together to bring in money from both sales and donations.

Attendees of Arts for Hearts were able to enjoy a fantastic production by some of Lake’s greatest performers, the humorous hosting of Natalie Holstine and George Pallas, and some delicious treats from the bake sale. One of many successful NHS projects this year, Arts for Hearts was a resounding success, raising money for a great cause, shining a well-deserved spotlight on talented students, and bringing attention to the arts at Lake.
