During the last week of September, Lake students enjoyed themselves with a week full of homecoming festivities. To kick off the weekend, students and teachers hosted a pep rally Friday morning in the main gym to honor fall athletes and create excitement for the eventful weekend coming up.
Students were called down to the gym to get ready for the rally. Seniors in fall sports waited in the hallway to be announced. The 2025 Homecoming court gets announced next. The girls on homecoming court were picked and voted on by their own classmates.
Each girl that was nominated picks the guy of their choice. Freshman all the way to the seniors get announced, when their names are called each girl and boy walks out. They meet at the three point line on the basketball court and do a fun handshake together. The homecoming court was also announced before the start of the football game, students that were picked walk alongside their parents.
Next the cheerleaders are ready to do their gameday routine. Cheering on the football players for the homecoming game that evening.
“Everyone was more hype and showed a lot of school spirit” says freshman Chole Ahbel who attended the pep rally.
Finally, time for the games with students and teachers. The first game was trying to knock cups off each other’s pool noodles. The second game was a relay race between four teams, each grade was a team.
Finally, it was time to decide which grade had more school spirit! Each grade had their chance to do the “do it” cheer and scream as loud as they wanted. Mr. Buckerfield then decided who had the most school spirit. Of course it was the senior class!
Homecoming followed on Saturday, September 27th, and the excitement continued to grow. The ladies dress in formal short dresses with high heel shoes and the gentlemen dress in button downs, ties and dress shoes. Before the dance different groups of couples and friends get together to take pictures and get dinner.
The dance starts at 7pm and that’s when most students arrive.. The cafeteria is decorated according to the theme that had been picked. This year’s theme was under the sea so the cafeteria was decorated accordingly. Balloon arches when you walk in, 2025 light up signs to take photos in front of with your friends, and all kinds of decorations hanging from the ceiling.
“The environment was better, and it felt like the upperclassmen were more intertwined with everyone and everyone was dancing together,” said Allie Kerscher, a sophomore who attended the dance.
“The playlist and songs that were played this year were a step up, songs students knew and could all dance to.”
In the past it was a recurring theme that the music played during the dance was not trendy music and not enjoyable for students. Students Olivia Draher, Maddy Brock and Peyton Fritz went to Principal Dan Harold asking to make a clean playlist with songs that everyone would enjoy. He approved of their idea, and the playlist they made was a hit!
It was known that the music was so much better than in the past.
