As the 2024-2025 school year ends and seniors are ready to close this chapter of their lives and begin new chapters, we can look back on the 13 years of education, friendship, community, and family that has been made throughout Lake High School with smiles. Depending on what their future years look like, whether that’s college, careers, sports, or wherever you end up, you will forever be a blue streak. Along with that comes our favorite memories whether that be football games, school dances, or pep rallies! The memories made between the walls here at Lake High School are truly unforgettable.
Based on a recent survey of students, some of the most popular memories include sports events and traveling with school clubs. Engaging in these activities are vital, as they make your high school experience while you get to meet new people, try new things, and possibly find a new passion.
“My favorite memory in high school was getting involved in track and field. It was the smartest thing that I have done because I have made wonderful friends and relationships these past 4 years. I will incredibly miss it, but I am grateful for all of the memories and I was taught how to be a better team leader, and team player,” says an anonymous senior at Lake High School.
Another popular favorite memory amongst the senior class is the infamous Mr. McCoy’s Salt & Vinegar Chip speech which creates a fun and savory twist on the law of marginal utility. His exciting environment makes learning fun and students enjoy going to his class everyday. Having a teacher who can bring a positive attitude and be someone you can confide in makes the school year truly special. .
One of the greatest aspects about high school is finding something or someone that will be missed. Whether that be friends, teachers, sports, coaches, etc., it’s rewarding to look back and realize what an impact the people/places you surround yourself with has on you and your future.
Speaking of finding someone that will be missed through high school ; the class of 2025 has two teachers that were unanimous favorites: Mrs. Leslie Smith and Mrs. Meredith Duncan. We owe a lot to our teachers as they are the ones who strive for our success and ultimately allow us to succeed. A lot of popular favorite teachers here at Lake are Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Smith, two very critical teachers throughout the high school journey as Mrs. Duncan focuses on chemistry and Mrs. Smith in United States History. The two together have helped create an enjoyable environment in the classroom. With their fun games, creating teaching styles, and a personality that students can relate to, it makes them easy to talk to and allows students to form a real bond and connection which makes students happy and enjoys the class more.
“My goal every year is to make students feel seen and that they matter. I need them to know that they are important to both myself and my class. I think we all know that science really is the best subject (wink wink), but I know that science, specifically Chemistry, isn’t always everyone’s jam,” says Mrs. Duncan. She really prioritizes that her students feel welcomed and safe in the learning environment which makes students feel good and included in her classroom, making her class a top favorite.
Mrs. Smith, who teaches U.S. History, lives by the quote: “Teach like kids have a choice to come to your class.” She shared, “I try to connect the past with their lives today. I try to laugh and have fun with my students. I always make time for a little bit of fun—5 to 10 minutes of something unrelated to the content to help create culture and community.” Students don’t just look forward to Mrs. Smith’s class—they want to be there. Her positive energy, creativity, and genuine care for students have made her a standout figure in many of our high school journeys.
So as we walk out of Lake High School’s doors for the last time as students, we leave with full hearts and unforgettable memories. No matter where the future leads, we’ll always carry a piece of this place with us—because once a Blue Streak, always a Blue Streak.
