Lake High School teacher Mr. Mccoy has been on a roll when it comes to identifying days called off due to the snow and/ or temperature. This is catching many student’s attention, particularly on Instagram. How has he been so accurate?
Mr. Mccoy, beloved social studies teacher at Lake High School has been perfect this year, going 3 for 3 on his snow/cold day predictions. His success all started when he predicted that Lake Local Schools would be closed on Thursday, January 16th, giving the Blue Streaks a 5 day weekend due to us having the 17th and the 20th off. But Mr. Mccoy shocked the world when he predicted we would have a 7 day weekend, announcing that he believed we were going to have Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd off due to cold temperatures including the wind chill.
This remarkable run, along with his forecasting reputation throughout Lake High School has started to catch some students’ attention. Many are wondering… has there been a lot of luck on Mr. Mccoy’s side? Does he know something that we don’t? When asked about the process of posting his stamp of approval, he dropped some inside information on the operation. “As soon as I am 51% convinced that school will be called off, I will post the stamp”, Mr. Mccoy claims. He then runs through his complex procedure, including a meteorologist group chat, his father in law, local newscasters, the NOAA website, and local bias based on Lake Local Schools’ reputation.
Mr. Mccoy’s all-time record for his predictions is up to 55-7 after his recent success. “I’d say it has been more skill than luck”, says Mr. Mccoy. This is a very respectable statement, based on the fact that his win-loss ratio is so far apart.
The next possible snow days land on Wednesday, February 12th and Thursday, February 13th. Mr. Mccoy usually does not make his predictions until the night before, unless it is very obvious.
